The goal of wastewater treatment is to produce treated effluent that is safe to discharge into the environment or suitable for reuse, while minimising the impact on public health and the environment.
Packaged wastewater treatment plants, also known as decentralised or onsite sewage treatment systems, are compact, prefabricated units designed to treat wastewater at or near the point of generation. These systems are utilised in areas where centralised (municipal) sewage infrastructure (mains sewage) is not available, typically remote accommodation facilities.
